ABOUT JOHN HARRIS
Author, NFL Journalist, and Filmmaker
John Harris is a national award-winning journalist. His media travels include the Pulitzer-friendly Philadelphia Inquirer, Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, St. Petersburg Times (now the Tampa Bay Times), Fort Worth Star-Telegram, ESPN’s Andscape, Toledo Blade, Lexington Herald-Leader and CBS Sportsline.
He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., where he rode the subway by himself at nine years old, attended middle school with actor Kevin Bacon, and landed his “dream” job at the hometown Philadelphia Inquirer before age 30. He studied English at Langston Hughes’ alma mater (Lincoln University) and discovered his passion for writing under novelist Bobbie Ann Mason at Mansfield University (now known as Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania). While in college, he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and helped found chapters at two different schools.
He is the author of three books, including his new paperback edition of MIKE TOMLIN: The Soul of a Football Coach about Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin featuring updated information. His first book, From Gold Teeth to Gold Jacket: My Life in Football and Business, explores the Hall of Fame career of running back Edgerrin James.
He is currently producing a documentary profiling NFL legend John Wooten and has agreed to write his biography scheduled for a 2027 release. After living and working in six states spanning four decades, he returned to Texas where he resides with his wife in Austin, Texas.

Tony Dungy is a Hall of Fame football coach and New York Times bestselling author. Most known for creating a winning tradition as the head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and leading the Indianapolis Colts to victory in Super Bowl XLI, he was the first African American head coach to win a Super Bowl. The coach responsible for bringing Mike Tomlin to the NFL, Dungy was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016 and currently serves as an analyst on NBC’s Football Night in America.
